What Are The Possible Treatments For Arthritis On Hand ?
Hi, I am 55 years old and have arthritis in both hands, fingers, toes and hips. Two seperate blood test have come back negative for RA but several physicians believe it is RA. Every joint affected has symetry. On the 29th of Dec. 2013, I triped and fell down two steps and used my left arm to catch me. the wrist and hand is stil l swollen with limited range of motion. The portion of the wrist most affected and tender is not the common scaphoid. It is distal to the small finger in the fold of the left side of the wrist. The hand is and has been swollen on top and bottom. Everyone who sees it thinks it is broken. I have an appointment with my family physician that had been prteviously scheduled for 01/03/14. Will waiting this long be of concern and do you think it is most likely fractured or sprained.
From the given description, most propably you might have sustained a fracture of the lower end of radius bone. An xray of the injured area will detect the presence of a fracture. It will be treated with a splint or support, if it is not displaced and in displaced fractures, surgery may be an option.
Waiting period of a week between the injury and the doctors consultation is not of much concern.
Keep your hand elevated, most of the time in a day and keep your fingers moving so as to reduce the swelling in the hand. Use simple over the counter analgesic medications like advil or aleve till the doctors consultation.
Hope this information is helpful. Good day
