What Are The Negative Effects Of Marijuana?

I am a 23yo Male with Marfans Syndrom. I have an enlarged aortic root and a bad back/joints. I have been smoking marijuana to help my joint pain daily. It helps better than anything else. I was wondering if it may have negitive side effects on my heart?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
If you have Marfan your heart already is at a bit of risk. That coupled with an increased incidence of heart disease seen in users of marijuana puts us in a dilemma as they can have an additive effect and accelerate your development of heart disease. We have much safer painkillers that are much less damaging to the heart. With your young age and a safer treatment protocol you can lead a healthy youthful life.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Arun A
