What Are The Harmful Side Effects Of Actonel 35mg?
Hello and thank you for assisting. My Aunty has Scoliosis/Osteoporosis. I have noticed recently that she is always either getting over a cold or coughing after a bout of laughter quite a lot. She is on Actonel 35mg. Could this drug be affecting her lungs or is it a combination of Actonel and her Scoliosis. She is in her late 50s

Stop using risedronate and call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:
chest pain;
difficulty or pain when swallowing;
pain or burning under the ribs or in the back;
new or worsening heartburn;
severe or ongoing indigestion;
severe joint, bone, or muscle pain;
new or unusual pain in your thigh or hip; or
jaw pain, numbness etc.

After going through history and medication, I can comment as follows:
1. Actonel is not known to cause damage to the lung directly.
2. Recurrent cold or cough is most commonly due to low immunity.
3. Scoliosis could cause minimal difficulty in breathing but would not cause recurrent cold or coughing.
She needs to improve her immunity by
1. Increasing her protein intake
2. Vitamins and minerals supplements
3. Regular exercises like walking.
Also she needs to do deep breathing exercises with spirometry and laughter will also be helpful.
