What Are The Harmful Effects Of Smoking On Heart?

My partner had 2 stents put in about 3 years ago. He is a heavy smoker and since he has had the surgery he seems to be smoking more. I notice a shortness of breathe, especially after he eats. His body is very tired and drained. How does his smoking affect his heart condition?

hello user , i understand your concerns . Cigarette smoking increases the risk of coronary heart disease by itself. When it acts with other factors like obesity , raised cholesterol , hypertension- it greatly increases risk. Smoking increases blood pressure, decreases exercise tolerance and increases the tendency for blood to clot. Smoking decreases HDL (good) cholesterol & Smoking also increases the risk of recurrent coronary heart disease after bypass surgery.
