What Are The Eye Problems Associated With Dandy Walker Malformation In Infants?

are there eye problems associated with dandy walker malformation in babies? My 3 week old child seems to be squinting his right eye and seems noticeably smaller then his left eye. When opening the eyes he also takes longer to open the right eye then the left.

Thanks for your query

It is important to understand that the Dandy Walker malformation is present in the back portion (posterior) of the brain. This is very close to the occipital lobe of the brain that controls the visual perception of the eye. The visual cortex controls the vision, inteprets the data and this part can be damaged or impaired in Dandy walker cysts escpecially if the pressure is high. Does he also have hydrocephalus, has that been increasing, has treatment been done for the hydrocephalus ( shunt or medications ). Please see an ophthalmologist to see if support can be given but more importantly check with your pediatrician if the head circumference is increasing or if he needs intervention for the hydrocephalus as that will also reduce the pressure of the Dandy walker cyst
