What Are The Effects Of Congential Calcium Deficiency In Adulthood?

My son was born with a calcium deficiency. He is now forty three years old and has trouble knowing what needs done in life and when. Such as cleaning his house, paying bills, etc. he is very smart, never had trouble academically unless the assignment was subjective. It is like he has a missing link in his brain. Is there anything I can do to help him?

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Nutritional deficiency during childhood can prove to be major setback for neural development. But calcium deficiency is not known to cause any such profound effects on behavioral and cognitive development because during growing years thyroid hormone plays a major role in brain development. Your son needs no therapy for his problems.

All he needs is your time, patience and love. Let him take his own decisions and organize his life. You can always give him moral support but do not impose decisions on him. Sometimes too much pampering harms one's own ability to work.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Deepti Shivakumar
