What Are The Difference Between Primolut N And Primolut Depot?

Please help me. I am 32 and on my second pregnancy. I have had virginal discharge through out the 12 weeks and I bled on 3 different occasion. My Dr placed me on primolut N. Injections weekly. A scan at 12 weeks showed I was dilating so my Drs ordered a cervical stich, which I had done. Then he changed the prescription to primolut depot after the cervical stich had been done. I d like to know if there is any difference between primolut n and primolut depot? And if the primolut n I had taken earlier could be responsible for the dilation diagnosis?

Hi,

Thanks for asking in HCM.

Primolut medication contains progesterone which is essential hormone for maintenance of pregnancy. You have been given injection every week till 12 weeks of pregnancy, as after that progesterone will be produced by placenta and the injection can be stopped. Your cervical dilatation problem has nothing to do with taking Primolut N or Primolut depo preparations. Cervical stitch is good enough to take care of the dilataion problem.

Primolut N tablets contain the active ingredient norethisterone, which is a synthetic hormone similar to the naturally occurring sex hormone, progesterone.

Primolut depot contains Hydroxyprogesterone caproate as its composition.

Hope the information provided is useful.
All the best.
