Hello. Thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. The head injury can be of two types - simple or dangerous type. Simple injury usually causes pain at injury site, headache, swelling at injury site, bruising, sometimes vertigo or blackout for few minutes. Patient remains conscious, oriented and recovers completely with rest and painkillers. Swelling and bruise resolves on its own in 10-14 days.

Dangerous head injury usually presents with either one or multiple symptoms like headache not responding to painkillers, vomiting, bleed through nose/ear/throat, loss of consciousness more than 5 minutes, decreasing consciousness, fits, onset of new focal deficit, coma. It needs evaluation and investigation like CT head to rule out fracture or brain bleed. Only skull fracture needs observation and medical treatment.

Brain bleed may require surgery if large and causing pressure on brain. Above mentioned features and injury are the most common complications of head injury.

You can correlate your findings and reach upto some conclusion. Accordingly you can consult and get treatment. At home, you can

: Take rest
: Apply icepacks at injury site
: Take painkiller like Diclofenac sodium after proper prescription
: Avoid pressure at injury site.

Hope it will help you. Thanks.

Take care.
