What Are The Chances Of Thyroid Transplant In Patients With Radioactive Iodine Ablation?

I had undiagnosed Hashimoto's, which eventually led to papillary cancer. I had my Total Thyroidectomy in August of last year, and because there was evidence of spread, underwent Radioactive Iodine Ablation. What chances are there that there will be a thyroid transplant for people like me?

Welcome to HCM. I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.

Thyroid transplant is not an option and wont be developed in future. Simple logic is

1. Absence of thyroid hormone (surgery/radio iodine/hypothyroidism) can be simply treated with thyroid hormone replacement which is cheap effective and associated with less side effects. If you had thyroid transplant you have to be on immuno suppression with medications that are expensive and with severe side effects. So so one is going to do scientific research on thyroid transplant in life time.

2. If you have thyroid transplant we cannot follow you with any tests for recurrence of papillary thyroid carcinoma
