What Are The Chances Of My Baby To Be Born With Down Syndrome?
I had my 36 week ultrasound yesterday. I was 36 weeks exactly. I am 32 years of age, five feet three inches and overweight. It seems that my measurements are all over the chart. This is my first pregnancy. AC - 335 HC - 335 FL - 67 BPD - 89 H/A Ratio - 1 My baby seems to have a rather large head and small femur. Are these normal rates? I am very worried about Down Syndrome. My previous results had me at one in forty thousand chance of DS... but these rates seem very off. Please advise.
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Large head is not indicative of Down syndrome, however short femur( less than 5th percentage for that gestational age) is a soft marker for Downs syndrome. If the serum screening for Downs syndrome shows a risk of less than1 in 40,000 then the chances of this condition is extremely low in fetus. The femur of your fetus doesn't seem to be less than fifth percentile, hence you need not worry. Hope you found the answer helpful. Wishing you good health. Dr Deepti Verma
