What Are The Chances Of Healing Of Navicular Stress Fracture While On Boots, Crutches?

I have a daughter who has hurt her foot and images show navicular stress fracture. After four weeks in boot and nonweightbearing with crutches, new cat scan hasn't shown signs of healing but orthopedic specialist says can try some weightbearing to stimulate blood flow and wait another six weeks. She has already missed one season of basketball and now looks like softball will may be missed as well. Due to the fact that there is no real split of two bones in navicular he would still go with non surgical route. What are the chances of this healing? She doesn't want to go seven weeks and have no healing and start over again. This injury happened Dec. 27th. We are also scared of surgery not knowing the healing rate of that as well. Feeling frustrated and not sure what right answer is.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for your query.
Most patients who suffer stress fractures are fitted with hard foot casts and instructed to avoid bearing weight on the affected leg. A person can expect to be on crutches for about four to six weeks, at which point the doctor can remove the cast and re-evaluate the injury. If the bone appears to be healing correctly, guided physical therapy sessions for several months can help the patient gradually rebuild foot strength and flexibility.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
