What Are The Chances Of Abnormalities In Children If Married To Cousins?
Dear Doctor, I am a 20 year old Srilankan girl who is engaged to my cousin..he is my mother s father s brother s son.. I want to know whether we have a very high risk in having abnormal babies when we marry?? we are going to get married next month.. we both are very worried n we need your help...pls advice us on what to do..because i hear that couples that are even closely related who marry have normal kids../but we are worried alot about our baby unborn yet! ppls help us! thanks, Natasha

Hello,the rick of having children with physical or mental abnormality is very high in marriage with immediate relatives ,not that all children will be abnormal but the risk is high, it is best avoided,if you have to marry each other than meet a gynecologist and take her advice before you plan to conceive ,later continuous monitoring is required to rule out may abnormality,it is also said the children born to marriage with relative have low IQ compared to others
