What Are The Benefits Of Taking Estradiol?

I am a 73 year old female and I have been taking Estradiol for 20 years and I am in great shape and want to continue taking it. What are the benefits in taking it? I do not have a uterus and my annual mammograms are fine. I am still sexually active and that was my original reason for taking it, to keep my sexual pleasure.

Hi,
Good to know you are healthy and active at 73.
Pertaining to your query about the benefits of estradiol they are as follows:
1) Prevents bone resorption ( bones start becoming fragile and loses calcium after menopause) this being one of the primary benefits because bone resorption can make you prone to fractures from very minor injuries and this would be a roadblock in your active life.
2) prevents vaginal dryness by keeping the epithelium intact.
3) improves libido
4) improves HDL cholesterol level (good cholesterol) which prevents cardiac diseases and atheroscelrosis. Hence it is cardioprotective.

Estrogen has certain side effects like it causes endometrial proliferation ( internal layer of uterus increasing risk of uterine cancers) but you dont have to worry about that.
There is an increased risk of breast cancers but since you are getting regular mammograms which are normal then its all good. Please perform regular breast self examinations for lumps.
Wish you best of health and vigor.
Please take care.

Hello.Besides of keep your sexual pleasure, estradiol prevents other symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness, osteoporosis or depression .
Your gynecologist must decide if it is appropriate for you to continue taking estradiol(estradiol too has adverse effects).I wish you good health.
