What Are The Benefits Of Taking Provera While Having PCOS?
Hello Dr. I have had many problems with PCOS. I ve lost almost all of my hair on the back of my head, I have many mood swings, unwanted hair growth etc.. my body is just going crazy.. I was recently put on Provera in hopes of starting a regular cycle and ovulation so my husband and I can possibly have another child. My question is what are the benefits of taking the Provera and will it be stop or reverse the effects of PCOS?
Welcome to HCM I understand your concern. Provera ( Medroxyprogesterone) is a type of female hormone (progestin). It will help you regularise your menstrual cycles. It does not lead to ovulation, necessary for you to become pregnant. . PCOS is due to Insulin Resistance. You should lose weight, if you are overweight or obese, eat a wholesome food and exercise well and you require a medicine like Metformin which reduces insulin resistance and helps correct the basic problem. In addition you may require fertility medicines. If you have more queries, I am available. Best wishes for a very successful outcome. Dr Noble Zachariah
