What Are The After Effects Of Hip Replacement Surgery In Osteoarthritis Patient?

It has been suggested I have hip replacement surgery. I am 72. I hurt on the outside of hip, groin area, and lower back. Can my need for this surgery cause my back to hurt also? An MRI shows the bones are very close to touching. I have osteo arthritis and hurt sometimes really bad and other days I may not hurt at all.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
hi,
whether you require surgery depends on how much pain you have. as you have mentioned you have osteoarthritis of hip. if pain is so much that you are unable to carry out your activities of daily living you definitely require a surgery. it also depends on how active is your lifestyle.
please don't worry, and go in for surgery if in too much pain. the results of hip replacement surgery are very rewarding. the only after effects are- a completely PAIN FREE life ( if proper precautions are followed)
regards
