What Are Side Effects Of Methylprednisolone (if Any)?

I am currently taking Methylprednisolone (6 day course, with 6 pills on day one, 5 pills on day two, etc.) I am currently on day two. I am 52 years old, 5 3 , and 148 pounds. Currently, my face, neck, and chest area are very red (like a sun burn). Also, my thighs and arms are also red, but not as red as my face, neck, and chest. Is this an allergic reaction to the drug? If so, should I not take my next dosage? I am supposed to take two more pills before bedtime. Thank you.

Hi,

Methylprednisolone belongs to the group of medications known as corticosteroids or steroids that is used in the treatment of various inflammatory conditions of the body such as arthritis, lupus, psoriasis, allergies, asthma, skin and soft tissue disorders, blood disorder, intestinal disorders like colitis, kidney diseases and many more. Though, it is used in the treatment of allergic reactions, but it may cause allergic reactions itself.

It can develop serious symptoms of allergic reactions like itching, rashes any part of the body, swelling of lips, tongue, throat, eyes, hands or feet, wheezing, breathing difficulties, dizziness, rapid heartbeat, hypotension or low blood pressure etc. If you suffer from such type of allergic reactions while taking Methylprednisolone, then you should stop taking this medication and inform your doctor promptly for medical help. Antihistamines may be the treatment of choice here.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
