Hi,

Brief answer: Ismo, nikoran, and ivabrad are medications used in the treatment of heart failure due to blockage of the coronary arteries.

Detailed answer: When the heart's pumping function reduces due to lack of oxygen supply from blockages in a coronary arteries, treatment will include medications that reduce the stress on an already stressed heart. Ismo and Nikoran act to dilate vessels to reduce stress on the heart. Ivabrad acts to slow down the heart rate, so that the heart's muscle can have more time to be supplied with oxygen-rich blood, but unlike beta-blockers it does not reduce the pumping function (i.e., cardiac contractility). These medications have been shown to improve the pumping function of the heart in bypass patients with reduced pumping function.

In my opinion, your father's cardiologist wants to assess the response of your father's heart to these medications. I would recommend that you discuss your concerns with your father's cardiologist.

Hope this helps answer your query. Let me know if I can further assist you.

Regards,

Dr. S.
