What Novelon, a contraceptive pill is used in treating PCOs?

Hi Doctor, I have PCOS and was on Oosure Plus for 8 months (as advised by my doctor), and now am on Novelon for 3 months. This is the first month I started with the Novelon tablets. I would like to know why Novelon (a contraceptive pill) is used to treat PCOS? [I am unmarried, so no chances of getting pregnant]

Hi,

The pill is given to you to regularise your cycles. PCOD can be only controlled. Modify your lifestyle to have better control.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr B. Radhakrishnan. Nair, OBGYN

HI there. I m wondering what the best oral contraceptive would be for someone with PCOS. They haven t tolerated the higher dose oestrogen pills due to weight gain/breast tenderness. Which of the lower dose pills would you recommend (Yaz and Mercilon available) and what are the advantages/disadvantages of just using a progesterone-only pill??

I wrote in last evening about Normoz and my daughters PCOS and large cyst. I was advised by your doc that she should take contraceptive pills and stop normoz! She s only 15 and not at all comfortable taking the contraceptive pill. The cyst was large - 6cm by 4 cm by 4 cm. What are the possible side effects of messing around with hormones by using artificial hormones in contraception pills?

Hi, I have a PCOS issue and i was asked to use Letrofil for the first month after my menstrual date, and then clomifene for the next two months. I am 38 years old and was diagnosed with PCOS last 8 months ago, but I have probably had it for years. Over the past year I have been experiencing heavy menses (bleed through every hour), migraines during menses, severe bloating, pelvic pain and irregular menses. My MD ordered a pelvic ultrasound and discovered my endometrial stripe was 1.5cm thick the week after menses. Is this normal thickness or cause for further testing? Additionally, I have a family history of uterine cancer.
