Weird Feeling In Mouth, Numbness In Gums And Teeth, Swollen Lips. History Of Using Activated Charcol To Whiten Teeth. Healing Time?

I used activated charcoal straight for about a week to whiten my teeth. My mouth is weird feeling. Not exactly sure where the numbness is. Front upper and lower gums . Lips have been swollen, they are better now. My mouth feels as it would if it had been numbed. Wondering how long this will last. I have not used charcoal for 3 days now.
Thank you,
Rona

hi...
thanks for the query...
it seems to be some kind of allergy... please never ever use such materials again to whiten your teeth...
it should subside in a day or two after discontinuation of the product... if still persists, visit your dentist... go for antihistamines and anti inflammatory drugs...
hope it will help you...
take care...

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

First of all,let me advice you not to use abrasive agents like charcoal to whiten teeth.

Always take an opinion by your dentist prior to using such agents.

Apply anaesthetic gel on the affected site.

Use soft bristled toothbrush as well as desensitising toothpaste to clean your teeth.

Gargle with chlorhexidine mouthrinses too.

Swish with warm saline untill the swelling subsides.
Hope this helps.

Dear friend.

Thanks for sharing your concern.

Now coming to your symptoms they appear allergic in nature.

who suggested you to use charcoal? If that was sufficient then what is the need of tooth paste?please do not use such stuff again.

Meanwhile discontinue that product and just do warm saline rinse and allow the tissues to recover on their own.

It might take some time.Do not worry.if you find any flare in symptoms or pain please see your dentist.

Hope it helps.

Thanks.

Take care.

Dentist Dr. Prachi Mishra's  Response
hi rona
its good now that you have stopped using that abrasive charcoal. ya it truly harms your oral cavity.it whitened your teeth by just grinding them and started exposing you dentine to the outer environment. i mean your teeth enamel may be gone. so please take your dentists help and know how to brush your teeth properly and use warm saline gargles. use soft bristled tooth brushes...

Hi,
Welcome to HCM forum Rona.
I agree with others doctors that it seems to be allergy due to charcoal.
Avoid using such abrasives please. Maintain oral hygiene by brushing with soft bristles brush and tooth paste in circular manner.
Apply Dentakind L gel over the swelling ,2-3 times for 4-5 days.
Use Betakind mouthwash daily.
Warm saline rinses will be beneficial to you.
Take care
