Weight Gain, Irregular Heavy Periods, Depression. Blood Tests Done. Any Further Test To Check Hypothyroidism?

I recently had blood work done at a health fair at our local hospital. In the report, my TSH is 4.420, T4 is 7.4, T3 uptake is 27, and Free Thryroxine index is 2.0. I have had weight gain in the last 6 months, irregular heavy periods, waves of depression, fatigue, feel like I'm in slow motion, lack of motivation, forgetfulness, changes in my hair. Should I have further testing done to see if I am hypothyroid?

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
Let me explain , what is hypothyroidism .
Hypothyroidism is a state of thyroid function characterized by normal T4 & T3 concentrations with a slightly elevated thyroid stimulating hormone ( T SH )level & an exaggerated response to INTRAVENOUS thyrotropin releasing hormone ( TRH) 400 mcg administration.
In your case as TSH 4.20 (
T4 7.4 (normal )
T3 23 ( 10-40).
In my opinion you are not having hypothyroidism at present.
The irregular heavy bleeding may be due to pcod or uterus disease . Diagnosis can be confirmed by ultrasound of ovaries and uterus.
2nd reason of irregular heavy bleeding may be hormonal imbalance , so get blood examination for estrogen, androgen, F SH /L H ratio.
3rd reason is depression , diagnosis can be confirmed by consultation with a psychiatrist .
So in my opinion first of all consult a gynecologist and get his opinion .
Good luck. Dr. HET
