1. because chemotherapy drugs effect the vestibular system of inner ear which helps to maintain our balance, thus cause weakness or inability.
2. because chemotherapy drugs effect cerebellum which controls movement, balance, mobility and posture, thus cause imbalance, and because all our muscles are controlled by nervous system, but our legs show it the most because they support all the weight. so it is mandatory to check with a Neurologist regarding complete Neurological Examination [especially higher functions].
3. There are 2 reasons of weight loss in cancer patient:
.Eating less and change in metabolism.
.lack of essential nutrients or decline in absorption or distribution of nutrients
These result in weight loss and this cycle continues i.e. weight loss-anorexia-weight loss.
-Anorexia depending on cancer treatment should be foreseen by the physician and prophylactic support therapy should be started. [Many cancer centers are offering nutritional counseling and support for those living with cancer.]
-check with Electrolytes also.
.Prevent dehydration: with water, fruit juices, non-caffeinated sodas and coffee, and non-alcoholic beverages, avoid alcohol and caffeine as these may cause dehydration.
4. keep the areas where he spend the most time, well lit, this will prevent chance(s) of falling.
5. You may also consult for Physical and Occupational therapy.
