Was Into Vigorous Game And Had Arrythmia. Can You Get Electrolyte Imbalance From Profuse Sweating?

Can you get an electrolyte imbalance from profuse sweating as a result of overexertion. I am 58, overweight, and was involved in a vigorous game of tennis two days ago. I then, during play, began to experience all the symptoms of arrythmia and had to stop playing. i now am still experiencing the arrythmia two days later. I will be seeing a cardiologist later in the week.

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your inquiry.

Yes, profuse sweating leads to electrolyte imbalance. So, I strongly suggest to :

- consult a cardiologist immediately

- do an ECG

- measure the electrolytes in the blood

Meanwhile, I would suggest until the next appointment, you should consume more water, more fruits and vegetables.

Wish good health!
