Very Low Calcium Level After Removal Of Thyroid. On Alodipine Besylate Tablets. Side Effects?

I have had my Thyroid removed and am taking Alodipine besylate tablets 10 mg, My thyroid was removed in Dec 1912, and since then my calcium levels have been very low. I am taking a very high dosage of calcium and 0.5mcg of calcitriol per day but to no avail. My question is ...would the amlodipine have anything to do with this.

Hi there ~

I understand your concerns and I am thinking that you meant to say that you had your thyroid removed in 2012. The parathyroid may also have been removed if you had a total thyroidectomy and that may be the reason for your variable calcium levels. I do not think that amlodipine has anything to do with the calcium levels, although you may be having a rare side effect. You may want to consult your doctor to find out if there are any other medications to help with the high blood pressure that you could potentially use.

I hope this helps allay your anxiety.
Take care and have a lovely day!
