VDRL Negative First, Then Positive. Is The Baby Norml?

Hi my prenatal profile showed VDRL reactive and the rest of the tests were non reactive ie. HBs Ag, HIV1 and HIV 11. My partner was negative but we both got treated just the same penecillin shots for 4 months 2mg each benza something. I was again tested and the VDRL is positive. what should i do?The anomaly scan shows baby has no deformities.

Hi,
Thanks for the query.
Better to continue the penicillin therapy.
This time you can go for long acting penicillin.
After taking the treatment for 1 to 2 months, go for repeat test for syphilis with your doctor's advice.
If test comes negative, no need to bother.
But if comes positive again, you may need further treatment and frequent antenatal visits to check the well-being of the baby.

Take care.
