Hi, I would like to know that there are certain medicines banned in different countries but in India we still use them, when one country bans it for a reason why do we use them. Regards Aldo

This is quite common in India, that we use so many drugs which are banned in othere countries. So you need to check with the doctor before using them.

Thank you for your reply, the very much concern in this query is that the doctors do prescribe the banned medicine, times they do not use their letter head but they use a plain paper to prescribe the same, in this scenario what do common man do.

Don't bother and trust your doctor. If a medicine is banned in other countries and not India, it is not the doctor's problem but the problem of Drug Controller Authority of India. So just go by Doctor's discretion as he is better aware of the side effects than the patients are.

Endogest is the brand name of a hormonal medicine called progesterone. This product is indicated in women trying to conceive if there is proven, documented deficiency of the progesterone hormone (during luteal phase). Once conception has taken place, progesterone hormone is indicated only in pregnancies due to assisted reproductive techniques such as IVF, etc. or in cases of habitual abortion (repeated miscarriages). Misuse and overuse of progesterone can lead to a number of side effects including fetal death and spontaneous abortion (more so in the first three months of gestation), masculanisation of female fetus (such as unwanted hair on face), birth defects in babies such as cleft palate and heart defects. Therefore in the United States, the use of progesterone during known or suspected pregnancy is banned. Unfortunately due to aggressive promotion by drug companies, progesterone products are being used as if they are tonics. During pregnancy, one should take the most minimal mandatory medicines such as folic acid 5mg daily (such as Folet or folinal). Qus: Pls. confrim is that ture ?
