Upset Stomach With Some Diarrhea, A Lot Of Headaches, Nausea, Longer Periods With Cramping. What To Do ?

I am 40 years old, african american, 140 lbs. Since last week Thursday, I have had an upset stomach with some diarrhea , a lot of headaches , nausea and my temp. is staying in the low 97s. I don t feel well at all! I m concerned also because my menstrual cycle came late but has lasted longer than normal and I am having severe pain that I can tell if it is gas or cramping. I should also mention that I was a kidney donor about 5 yrs ago.

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
With the available described symptoms, there could be possibility of acute viral gastroenteritis.
Presence of body ache, watery diarrhea and abdominal cramps suggests the diagnosis.
You should consult with internal medicine specialist/ gastroenterologist and should go for thorough check up.
You should go for complete blood count, serum electrolytes and renal function test.
You should take complete antibiotic therapy, probiotics, antispasmodics and muscle relaxants.
You should maintain your hydration by taking potassium rich supplements.
Avoid milk and all milk related products such as cheese and butter.
Menstrual irregularities are common during menopausal stage and this should be considered as normal and you should also consult with gynecologist.
Take care,
Dr. Mayank Bhargava
