Uncontrolled Contact Dermatitis Of Unknown Etymology. No Relief With Medicine. Further Step?

I am a 27 y/o healthy male. for three years i have uncontrolled contact dermatitis of unknown etymology. I have no insurance. My dermatologist never diagnosed what caused it just did a biopsy to diagnose it and prescribed clobetasol propionate which works but is not a cure. Where do I get started to get my skin and my life back? An allergist or a dermatologist b/c I can t afford both. What testing should be performed

Hi,
Contact dermatitis can occur due to number of reasons. It could be cosmetic, soap, detergent, chemical, clothing, plant, metal etc induced. To rule out the cause site of lesion, occupation, hobbies etc of the patient should be known. To pin point specific allergen a patch testing needs to be done with suspected allergens and the same can only be done by a dermatologist or an allergy expert.
The mainstay of treatment is oral and topical steroids along with emollients and oral anti histaminics.
Unless the underlying cause is ruled out, treatment can only be offered to treat the existing lesions.
Hope that helps.
Take care
