Twitching In Eye Followed By Cheek And Lips. Does This Seem To Be Stress/anxiety Related ?

A month ago I had an episode where my eye began twitching and led to my cheek and lip at the same time. My eye closed up and it felt like my face was twisting. It lasted all of 5 seconds. I also had a lot of sinus pressure when it happened. Since then I have random twitches that amount to nothing more than a flutter. In fact I have always had these small flutters. I have terrible allergies and often am stuffed up from allergens. About a week ago the same eye, cheek and lip twitch happened again but only about 25% intensity. When I don't think about it I have no twitching, but when I do the flutters start up again. I have been under significant stress. I have a prescription for xanex and if I take .25mg my symptoms basically disappear. Does this seem to be stress/anxiety related?

Psychiatrist Dr. Manisha Gopal's  Response
welcome to HCM!

After reading your question carefully I can say from my experince that the flutter and twitches appear to be related to stress.

The important points in its favour are:

1. that it happens when you think about them and not otherwise
2. and that it resolves with very low dose of Xanex 0.25 mg

The only thing that bothers me is that you have had them for very long and that you are allergic to many things...it is a possibility that the cause is stress plus some thing organic. For ruling out organicity, one needs to get some tests and also check your Blood pressure.

You have not mentioned if you are on any psychiatric medicine for your stress/ anxiety or not. However, I would sincerely advice you to consult a psychiatrist or at least a GP for your problem. You will get good relief.

Strss not only causes anxiety, flutter, twitches, but also in long run has bad effect on ones whole body; including heart.
so, please see a psychiatrist.

Hope the reply is useful
