General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history related to your 4 year old son.
Blood traces at the end of passing stool is indicative of a condition called fissure-in-ano.
This is not a serious concern.
Get examined by a Pediatric or General Surgeon and the diagnosis will be final. May need ano-proctoscopy to see for any internal cause.
I think constipation would be causing fissure that causes blood trace after passing stool.
Hence needs stool softener to keep stool soft.
Timely laxatives as per the age and suppositories would help further.
Sitz bath in a tub with warm water before and after passing stool is needed.
Also watch for any foods and beverages that cause him constipation or hard stools and avoid these.

I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant,
General Surgeon
