My son is 4years and when he stools we see traces of blood at the end of the stool.not in between stools but at the end. The doctor say its a bacteria infection and we were give anti biotics which we used. Its the third time he s been treated with anti biotic but this condition still presits. General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history related to your 4 year old son.
Blood traces at the end of passing stool is indicative of a condition called fissure-in-ano.
This is not a serious concern.
Get examined by a Pediatric or General Surgeon and the diagnosis will be final. May need ano-proctoscopy to see for any internal cause.
I think constipation would be causing fissure that causes blood trace after passing stool.
Hence needs stool softener to keep stool soft.
Timely laxatives as per the age and suppositories would help further.
Sitz bath in a tub with warm water before and after passing stool is needed.
Also watch for any foods and beverages that cause him constipation or hard stools and avoid these.

I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant,
General Surgeon

I had a burritto w/ chorizo and lots of veggies in it this past weekend. Within 2 hours I had alot of gas, some cramping and then I had loose bowels. Movement was soft, loose, and feathery..pretty much the usual medium brown color. I noticed some mucus, too. This went on for several hours. I slept thru the night and when I awoke..again I had gas and a bit of loose stool. Still had urge to go..and would pass a bit w/ mucous. After may trips..I noticed some mucous mixed with blood. This went on for a few more hours. I resorted to a bland soft diet till my system gets better. Marked improvement. Still have some gas off and on..but mucous seems to have disappeared and also any trace of blood. This morning...I had a soft bowel movement. Yesterday I had reintroduced a bit of more solid food..2 slices of whole wheat bread w/ deli turkey, green beans, scrambled eggs, a cup of Greek non fat plain yogurt, some broth and thin bean curd noodles and lots and lots of water. With this soft bowel movement...looked to be loose again and a tiny bit of mucous tinged with string of blood. Am I dead? I m not being funny..but I m trying to not freak out. I know my hemmoroids must be flared. I ve never experienced blood before in or with my stool. The blood is very bright red..and as I said..just a bit appears.

my baby is almost six months old by this january 4, these past days, she began to get slimy stools and i got stool test for her and it came out that she had amoeba, then the pediatrician prescribed methanidazole for her, after taking 6 ml, she began to get swollen gums and she was crying and didn t want to drink milk. i bought her to see another doctor and got her stool examined again and found out that she didn t have amoeba but she had bacteria because there was mucus in her stool, the doctor prescribed chloramphenicol and she took 7 ml already out of the 28 ml that she must take. and the doctor asked me to reduce the scoop of formula milk. now, the stool always comes out every time she farts and the stools that come out are just in small quantity and the stool is still the same, still have mucus. what is wrong with my baby, should i continue the chloramphenicol palmitate. please help me

My 5 year old son started having stomach cramps a month back with constipation and later followed by loose, watery stools . We consulted doctor1 insisted for ultra sound scan of stomach & prescribed Ofloxacin syrup for 3 days . Ultra sound scan said Multiple subcentimeter lymph nodal enlargement noted within mesentery . Doctor1 reviewed and said nothing to worry about this and no treatment for this and it will subside once infection goes off. After the treatment loose motions stopped but little stomach pain here and then with bloating continued. After a week, boy had some chocolates and little spicy food resulting in loose, watery stools and stomach cramps again. Doctor1 reviewed and prescribed ofloxacin metronidazole thinking its diarrhea. After giving it or 3 days, symptoms didn t reduce and vomiting started as well. We changed doctor & doctor2 reviewed and prescribed Ziprax 100 mg ( cefixime ) along with Domstal and ORS. We got Stool test report and it was normal with 2-5 puss cells. We also gave for stool culture and that report showed no culture. After reviewing the reports doctor said stop antibiotics (3 days over anyway) and with ORS he will be normal in few days. Now, from couple of days, vomiting sensation stopped but he is not able to digest all the food he used to take. Stomach cramps has reduced but not stopped. Bloating is still there but reduced. Still having greenish loose hard and then watery stools once or twice in a day. He is able to take light /soft food and we are giving it frequently with ORS. We are not able to understand why he is not becoming normal , its been a month already and we are worried a lot. Please help us with your suggestion. You can write to me at YYYY@YYYY Thanks, Prithvi
