hi
welcome to HCM
YOU SAYTHAT YOU ARE HAVING PAIN IN YOUR TOOTH SINCE LAST TWO MONTHS.. IT IS A LONG PERIOD OF TIME. IT IS FOR SURE THET YOUR PULP IS INFECTED.. YOU ARE PRESCRIBED WITH CORRECT MEDICINES BUT UNTILL AND UNLESS YOU GET YOUR TOOTH TREATED FURTHER YOU WILL NOT GET RELIEF.. SO I WOULD SUGGEST YOU TO PLEASE GO TO A DENTIST AND GET AN X RAY DONE FOR THE TOOTH... MOSTLY THE TREATMENT GIVEN IN SUCH CASE IS ROOT CANAL TREATMENT... AND I THINK YOU SHOULD ALSO OPT FOR IT

welcome to HCM forum. Well, most of dental pain caused by inflammation caused by bacterial infection, especially if you have a carious tooth or gum problem. Augmentin is prescribed for that reason to kill the bacteria that caused infection. The dose of Augmentin( Amoxicillin) is 3 times a day, because the half life or the medicine stays in the body as active state not more than 8 hours. So taking twice a day will not kill all the target bacteria, result will be delayed(as in your case"...plus two days") and there is always a chance of that particular bacterial resistance, i.e. that bacteria will not be affected by amoxicillin in future. Now, the action of any antibiotic will not stay for more than few hours after you stop taking antibiotics. As your tooth?( you did not mention) or oral cavity harboring many bacteria the problem again may flare up and that is happened to you. If you have still few days left to come to India and consult you doctor, it's better to start Augmentin again. But, this time thrice a day. There is no harm of taking a course of antibiotic after two months. Use analgesic like paracetamol 1gm as and when required. Get well soon.
