Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello Dear

To my patient I always say for sleep problems that it is very important that one understand that sleep is a state of relaxation and if you are too anxious about sleep it will be difficult for you to fall off to sleep and to maintain a proper sleep. Drugs usually either too much sedate or produce side effects
Another point is that sleep disturbances are usually underlying symptom of some psychiatric disorder like Depression or anxiety etc unless cause is treated sleep will never be satisfactory
To patient like you with me I would have told
1.     That take Antidepressant by generic name drug Amitryptiline 25 mg night
1 hour before going to bed ,It will serve both as anti depressant and anti anxiety ,make you to relax and will help to get you off to sleep
2.     Get evaluated by psychiatrist for underlying disease if any causing sleep disturbances
3.     Do not expect result from first day as it takes few days for the drug to build blood level and show result
4.     Do not take coffe;tea do not ;smoke 1 to 2 hours before sleep
5.     Go to bed only when sleepy
6.     Follow sleep hygiene suggestions available on net

Worry less about sleep I assure you ;you will get good natural sleep ;Take care
