Tightening In Chest, Sore Muscle Pain. Reason?

I am a healthy 58 yr old male. For the past month, I have been taking my blood pressure on a regular basis and have seen it rising fairly steady, today for the first time, I felt like a tightening in my chest. Not a sharp pain but a sore muscle pain like u would get in your legs after skiing for the day. Should I be concerned?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

The typical features of chest pain of cardiac origin are as follows -
*Pain is diffuse in nature and is felt over the entire chest wall
* It may radiate to jaw, shoulder, neck and arm
* It is tight , sqeezing or choking in nature
* It is made worse by exertion or emotion
* relieved by rest

Its always better to get a cardiologists opinion (if in doubt) to rule out that your pain is not of cardiac origin.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
