General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Involuntary bowel movement commonly occurs due to nerve damage (due to MS, diabetes), Inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's or ulcerative colitis), cognitive (thinking) impairment(stroke, advanced Alzheimer's disease), injury or damage to the muscles around the anal muscles or diarrhea.

You are suggested to visit ER, get physically examined. Get the required tests like stool testing, endoscopy, endosonography, nerve tests, MRI did to detect the cause of incontinence.

Your treatment will depend upon the pathology detected. You may need medications or surgery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
