The ultrasound report is suggestive of sub-acute thyroiditis. Should I be concerned?

Yesterday I was told my anti thyroid levels were high and was ordered an ultrasound. Today the ultra sound report states heterogeneous thyroid gland with mild hyper vascularity in the right thyroid lobe, suggestive of sub acute thyroiditis. No discrete thyroid nodules identified. I ve been referred to an endocrinologist but can t get in until July. What does all this mean? Should I be concerned or try to find another doctor that can get me in before July?

Hello,

Subacute thyroiditis is an acute inflammatory disease of the thyroid probably caused by a virus. Symptoms include fever and thyroid tenderness.

Initial hyperthyroidism is common, sometimes followed by a transient period of hypothyroidism. So, the scan increased vascularity means increased particular lobe.

You also have to check your thyroid profile status. May need thyroxine or anti thyroid drugs depending upon the need.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

I am having fever since the month of june. Earlier my family phy. adviced me that it is because of throuat infection. But after doing couple of antibiotic course i was not relieved. After throat scanning it was diagonsed as acute thyroidtis. And steorids course of one month was given, but fever was there 99.2 to 99.4. The thyroid course was over last month. But no relief in fever, doctors told me it is insignificant. But since last 3-4 days, the fever is between 100 to 101. The doctor prescibed me azithromicin 500 mg daily. But no relief in fever.
