Should Doxycycline Be Stopped Before Taking Tamiflu?

The doctor prescribed prednisone (taper 4-4-4-2-2-2-1-1-1) and doxycycline for bronchitis yesterday. I already took 2 days worth of each. I received a message this evening that I tested positive for the flu. She sent a prescription for Tamiflu to my pharmacy. Should I stop the doxycycline? I have mild asthma which seems to cause infections to head to my lungs. I use Advair discus daily and have an inhaler which I only need to use when I am sick ( I used it 3 times in the last 3 days).

Hi,

Tamiflu (Oseltamivir) does not have any known drug interaction.

Even in flu, it is a common practice to give empirical antibiotic in addition to the antiviral drug, keeping in mind secondary bacterial infection (Pneumonia).

Doxycycline does not have any known drug interaction with Oseltamivir and can be combined.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
