Tension Headache, Dull Ache On Touching Temples. Due To Stress?

Hi, six weeks ago I went to the Ed with a severe temple headache, after examining me they concluded I had a tension headache , the pain has since got better but still I feel tender to touch the left temple and it feels like a dull ache. I am 50 years of age and apparently not menopausal. I have been under alot of stress for the past 2 years, can tension headache last 6 weeks.

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your symptoms.

I agree that your headaches are most likely due to tension headache. Yes, tension headaches can last for up to six weeks or even longer.

You should be on preventive medications such as Amitriptyline tablets. For pain relief, you can take ibuprofen or diclofenac tablets.

In addition to tension headache, we should also consider a diagnosis of temporal arteritis. A blood test ESR could be helpful. If ESR is elevated, it could be indicative of temporal arteritis- an inflammation of temporal artery.

I hope it helps.

Best wishes,
