Am not sure what this exercise is called by it strengthenes your lower back.. Lie flat on your stomach and put your hands under your chin.. Lift you head up along with your hands that is.. for a few seconds then relax.. and repeat.... For a more advanced exercise, try lifting your legs together with your head.... Maybe you should consult a doctor just to be sure its nothing serious..

I have been active person in my life and now 87. I have gained about 15 pounds. I suffer from low back pain and it has worsened since a I had another knee replacement last year. The old one was 21 years and was put in in 1992. It still hurts and with my back painful for sitting, I wonder what can be done to be more comfortable? I take strong pain pills and exercise twice a week with a group. I also have stretch and other ways of trying to rid of pain. What do you think of the back injections? I do try to keep going and see and do many things, but I am also a writer and an artist. This means sitting much. I believe waiting to see a good specialist makes it worse. Why is Canada so terrible for waiting for a specialist?

QUESTION FOR ORTHOPEDIC CONSULTANT. Hi, I have been suffering from acute lower back pain and sciatica for a long time now. I am also unable to lie on my side as I get an ache and discomfort at the side of my thighs. I have had an MRI scan which reads : Reduced disc height and signal at L5/S1 with acute endplate stress changes. There is grade 1 degenerative retrolisthesis at this level. At L5/S1 there is a circumferential disc bulge but no significant foraminal stenosis or neural compression. What is the best course of treatment you would recommend please as the pain has made my life very debilitating. Many thanks. Donata
