Taking Lowest Dose Of Hormone Patch. Will It Hurt Me Not To Wear A Patch At All?
I wanted to go on the lowest dose of hormone patch I could, so my doctor gave me the 0.025 patch. I have been on it for one year. I am 68 and in good health. After retiring, I want to watch the cost of meds. This patch has gone from $40 to $95 for the upcoming year. It costs more than the 0.0375 patch I was taking before.
Will it hurt me not to wear a patch at all? My doctor hates to go back up to the 0.0375 after dropping down at my request a year ago. Thank you.
Hello Thanks for your query. Since you are already on the lowest possible dose, i think you can now consider dropping HRT. This is not just because of the cost, but HRT in any case is not recommended for more than 5 years at your age, considering the risks involved. At 68, I think you would have already spent enough time and money on the hormones. Try going patchfree gradually, or switch over to the equivalent dosage of the cheaper oral hormones, gradually tapering their dose to stop. you must be prepared for some side effects, but am sure it will work out gradually. All the best.
