Taking Birth Control Pills For Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. Should I Take Ovcon?

I was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome when I was 15 and have been on birth control pills on and off ever since. The last ten years I have been on them faithfully. I am 33. I have been on sprintec for about five years. I have had facial hair since I was young and get hormonal acne right before my period. My gynecologist just switched me from sprintec to ovcon 35 to treat these issues. Do you think this is the right choice or is there something better. I cannot tolerate drugs specifically for hirsutism. I need moderate levels of estrogen as well. I do not tolerate the low dose birth control pills. Do you think the Ovcon 35 will work better than sprintec for these conditions? I appreciate your advice.

Hello.I think the decision is of your gynecologist is correct.
The components of the new drug are Norethindrone and Ethinylestradiol.
About hirsutism, prescribed drug contains Norethindrone, that has less power than other specific birth control pill for hirsutism widely used, for example ciproterone acetate.
About Estrogens levels ,will be normal taking that drug.
About low-dose birth control pill , Etinylestradiol dose of new drug is 35 mcg.
Ethinylestradiol dose in some birth control pills is 15 or 20 mcg.
Follow the recommendation of her gynecologist.
I wish you good health.
