Taking Topamax For Trigeminal Neuralgia. Have Chronic Cough, Bronchitis. Due To Medicine?

I have taking topamax for over 6 years now. Current dosage is 375 mg per day. I take it for trigenic neuralgia. I have a chronic cough and for the last 2-3 years have suffered from several bad episodes of bronchitis and at least once a year have had to be on antibiotics. Could this cough be from the topamax? If so, what would the best alternative med be to it. I have tried gamapentine but it was not as effective as the topamax.

hi,
topiramate doesn't cause the cough or infections of lungs. so, it is totally unrelated. kindly get this bronchitis treated as and when comes. if you are smoker, kindly stop it. so there must be some other reason like your work, smoking etc.

common adverse effects of topomax are
numbness & tingling, upper respiratory tract infection, diarrhea nausea, loss of appetite, memory problems

generally upper respiratory tract infection do not go into lower respiratory tract as in your case, early treatment of URTI can lead to avoidance of bronchitis.

wishing you good health
