Taking Thyronorm For Hypothyroidism. Weight Loss, Body Pain, Hair Loss. Correct Dosage?

Hi, I am Smitha from Bangalore. I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism since August 2010. I have been taking Thyronorm 25 mcg since that time. In between last year January 2012 I just stopped taking the medication, but came to know that it has to be taken permanently. At that time, I was undergoing IVF treatment, which also was not successful. The doctor who treated me told me to increase the dose to 50 mcg because my TSH value had increased. The treatment was in June 2012. In July 2012, I started losing weight, had body pain, hair loss. I checked my thyroid. It had gone to hyperthyroidism with value of 1.0. I started taking my usual dosage of 25 mcg without skipping even for a single day and when I checked in April 2013, the value was 5.3, which was borderline with symptoms. At that time my weight was 55 kg. I did not do the thyroid test for quite long time. This year April end, I started taking ayurvedic medicine, but it did not suit me. I lost weight. I had consulted again another IVF specialist in Bangalore who told me to take 37.5 mcg, which I am taking, but still my health is going down with losing weight and hair loss. Can you tell me how much dosage should i take?

Hi Smitha,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic,
After going through your history, you are having hypothyroidism, and on replacement therapy(Thyroxine).
Please do not stop and start the treatment, also as you are undergoing IVF therapy you need to control your thyroid more carefully.
You should continue to take 37.5 mcg/day and then retest thyroid function tests FT3, FT4 and TSH and then adjust the dose accordingly may be after 1 month.
Take care of your normal diet and include iodized salt and relax some kind of exercise and yoga and meditation will help you.
Hair loss is significant consult a Dermatologist for proper therapy.
It will take some time before everything becomes normal have patience and follow instructions of your treating doctor.
Take care.
Good Luck.
