Taking Fenofibrate, Having Severe Itching All Over The Body. Is This Reaction Due To Medication ?

I have been taking Fenofibrate for the last few years and for about that same amount of time I have been having this server itching problem. It bothers me more at night when I go to bed and can effect all of my body or sometimes my legs and the bottom of my feet only. It keeps me awake until the wee hours of the morning and makes it very hard for me to get up and go to work some days. Could this problem be an reaction from the Fenofibrate? I also take Nexium and Hydrochlorothazide.
I have recently started with a new doctor and told her about my itching problem and she doubled my Fenofirate and started me on a new medication to help with the itching Ondansetron 8 mg and this does not seem to help at all.
Could you please help me, I am desperate.

Hi

Thanks for your query to Health Care Magic.

Currently you are on 3 medication which are as follows:
1.     Fenofibrate – anti lipid drug to treat high cholesterol
2.     Nexium – an antacid
3.     Hydrochlorothazide – a diuretic

Some of the common side effects of these drugs are as follows:
1.     Some of the common side effects of Fenofibrate are Abdominal Pain, Back Pain, Headache, nausea, constipation and weakness.
2.     Some of the common side effects of Nexium are dizziness, confusion, increased heart rate, diarrhea, muscle cramps and cough
3.     Some of the common side effects of Hydrochlorothazide are vision problems, dry mouth, thirst, nausea, vomiting, feeling weak, drowsy, muscle pain, itching, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools and jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes)

It seems the main culprit for your itching is not Fenofibrate but it is Hydrochlorothazide as it is know to cause itching.

Kindly revisit your doctor for re-evaluation.

Hope that helps

Wishing you a fast recovery

Take Care:)
