Hello I am a twenty year old married female. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for almost a year now and are starting to get concerned. I have had irregular periods since I was thirteen when I got very sick I have been on birth control pills and iron for anemia from thirteen years old to a year ago. My doctor has started to ween me off of the iron pills but will not give me anymore answers on why I'm still having irregular periods. My periods are never the same time length or flow. Theres no way to calculate them I also have had random moments of fatigue sharp pains on my left side right next to the pelvic bone mostly ,occasionally on the right. Also forget fullness and Sinus pressure alot in the ear area. Ocassional moodiness And headaches that last for days.lots of abdominal bloating lower back pain. Is there anything that can be done to help me feel better and to control my periods and am I still able to get pregnant.

Hello,
If I were your treating doctor for this condition I would come up with these possibilities , these include.
1 Poly Cystic Ovarian Disease ( PCOD or PCOS ) , diagnosis can be confirmed by an ultrasound of both ovaries as you are complaining that there is pain on the left side in lower abdominal region. Pain is also on the right side in groin area , so chance of PCOD are very much . Consult another gynecologist and get his opinion..
2 Irregular period , dysfunctional uterine bleeding may be sometimes due to mild fibroid and diagnosis can be confirmed by gynecologist after ultrasound report.
3 Hormonal imbalance , get in blood for estrogen, androgen , c b c .
As you mentioned that there was anemia so anemia may be the reason of irregular bleeding.
In my opinion you should consult a gynecologist and take his treatment and opinion as early as possible.
After any disease we can assess the situation for pregnancy.
Good luck. Dr. HET
