Symptoms Of Crohns With Fistulas In Rectum, Pain And Sound In Lower Abdomen With History Of Ulcerative Colitis. Any Thoughts?

My daughter was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in 1995, she was 9 yeas old. March 1997, her colon was removed and she had an ileastopmy, excuse spelling, 3 months later, she had surgery to reattach the small intestine to the rectum, no pouch. She developed a stricture in the rectum that has had to be dilated one to two times a year ever since. But the past few years she has symptoms that sound like crohns. She has two fistulas on both sides of rectum that cause pain in her butt checks. She doesn't get much sleep, her lower abdomen gives her pain and makes lots of noise and movement.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi. The development of fistulas in such conditions is common. Before one can say the real cause, it is always better to get the biopsy done to get the confirmed diagnosis. This has a direct bearing on the treatment. Go for fistulograms. Your Doctor will be in a better position to decide whether surgery is going to cure her off the fistulas. Pain and noises can be due to obstruction in the GI tract.
