Swollen Tonsils, White Discharge, Swollen Glands. Have Eye Sty, Yellow Coating On Tongue. Cause?

I have been dealing with a bad bout of tonsillitis for about 5 days now. I have tonsillitis before and it was never this painful for this long. I have swollen tonsils with some white discharge and slightly swollen glands. I had a blood test done to rule out glandular fever and I never heard anything back so I presume its negative. I m just worried that my tonsils still look so bad and I ve also had lower back pain and today I woke up with an eye sty and I noticed a yellow coating on my tongue . I was just wondering if there was any possibility these might be related and if there is anything else that could be causing them? I m a 20 yr old female, non- smoker, no other health problems.

Hi,
Welcome to HCM
You are having acute Tonsillopharyngitis which may started as a viral infection and later on got secondary bacterial infection.
Hot saline gargles and antiseptic mouth wash like chlorhexidine are useful, but antibiotis and decongestants are required for which you must visit a ENT surgeon and get the prescription.
Stye is certainly bacterial infection if you take antibiotic same may work for stye also.
Local hot fomentation helps alot in stye.
You should also get your eye check up for refrective errors if you get frequent stye.
Take care
Good Luck to you.

Hi
Thanks for your query.
So the problems you are having are --
-tonsillitis
-low back pain
-stye in eyelid

Are you taking any medicines for illness ?
I would suggest to repeat the blood investigations and get a throat swab culture sensitivity testing done.
For tonsillitis you will need to have a course of antibiotics like Co-Amoxiclav
Use an antiseptic mouthwash gurgling or alternatively you can use warm saline gurgling.
Take Vit C tablets and plenty of citrous fruits.
Have plenty of fluids.
Have paracetamol tablets for fever.

For stye in eyelid you will need antibiotic eye ointment .
Maintain eye hygiene.
Get a check up from an ophthalmologist.
You may need incision and drainage if condition doesn't improve.

Regarding your back pain what is its nature ?
Do you have pain in the morning after waking up and gets resolved with work or does it increase with work as day progresses ?
What kind of physical work do you do?
You may need to have X Ray of lumbar vertebra done.
For pain relief you can have analgesics like paracetamol+aceclofenac combination tablets and apply diclofenac gel locally.
Get a check up from an orthopedic surgeon.

Hope this helps
Update here how you stay .

Take care.
