Swollen Lymph Node Beneath Clavicle. Should I Be Concerned?

Hello I am a 52 year old relatively healthy male , very athletic up to my mid 30 s. I was extemely health consicious. Later in life i began to drink a bit more and started smoking . I have been the same weight for the past 25 years , give or take 2/5 lbs. Recently I have developed a small lump which at times is very painful (sharp to dull ) , but lingers for quite some time , I own a physiotherapy clinic and I asked our Dr. of Acupuncture what he thought It may be , first thing he said upon examination was swollen lymph nodes beneath the clavicle .Should I be concerned,I did plan on making an appointment with my GP , sorry I must admit I really am concerned I have three children. Please help

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.Lymphnode enlargement of shorter duration will be of Infective origin mostly. Please try antibiotic and Anti inflammatory drug initially. If there is no response, you have to be further investigated with test like Fine needle aspiration cytology of the node or Biopsy. It confirms the diagnosis and the treatment will become easier. All the best.
