Swollen lump on thumb, redness, light line in the centre. Could I have been bitten by something?

I have a very painful swollen lump on the top of my thumb . It is red and hot. It has become worse since yesterday. There seems to be a light little line almost in the centre. That is most painful spot. I can barely bend my thumb today. Could I have been bitten by something??
