Swollen Liver And Spleen Mono, Given Fluids, Not On Steroids

my son has mono with swollen liver and spleen . He was admitted into the hospital for 3 days and was given fluids and released. He still has a the symptoms listed on all inquiries regarding mono. His doctor never put him on steriods, should he have done so. Doctor did mention steriods but said he really did not want to do that. What is your opinion?
