Swollen Lips, Bumps Inside The Lips, Lips Scratched By Dog, . Anything To Worry?
hey Doctor I'm really scared because my dog scratched my lip yesterday when I was holding her and it cut my upper lip and this morning it was swollen really bad now I notice that I have a white looking bump inside my upper lip and it's still really swollen I tried using ice so it wouldn't be so swollen but it doesn't seem to help...
Any scratch by your dog on lips must be treated as dog bite injury.
I hope that you have got your dog immunized for rabies. You must have washed your lips with lots of running water for at least 5 - 10 minutes. You need to consult a doctor as early as possible so that an antiseptic ointment can be given and you must also take a tetanus toxoid shot if not immunized earlier. As dog related injuries to the face are of high risk category, you may take anti rabies vaccine as per suggestion of your doctor after examination of your wound. Taking a complete course of antibiotics may be necessary.
Pain relievers may be taken as and when required. Please observe your dog for any change in behavior for next 10 days.
Hope this helps
