Hi there....this is the age when wisdom tooth erupts...you have not mentioned which part of your oral cavity is sore....if your pain and swelling is near your molar region then its because of the impacted third molar....if your pain and swelling is more anterior then you need to rule out any carious tooth or any other viral infections......consult an expert for clinical evaluation.

his swelling can most likely to be acute parotitis which is an an acute inflammatory response to bacterial infection of parotid gland.
It causes redness pain, swelling and tenderness over the gland on the side of the cheek
It’s a temporary condition and treatment comprises of correction of the lack of fluids (rehydration), antibiotics to reduce the swelling and pain relief by analgesics.
You must start with antibiotics soon which can be obtained by prescription from your dentist or from attending physician at ER.Other than this consume lots of fluids and massage your cheek area from back to front.

Hello,
Thanks for writing in.
I read your query, details you provided are not much clear.
Still i would like to tell you that if this swelling is related to wisdom tooth region it could be bercause of impacted tooth infection,if anterior to wisdom tooth it could be because of infection oroverhanging restorations or cheek biting because of buccally place teeth.
So i will suggest you visit a dentist in your area and get the thorough examination done and take a proper treatment after find out the cause.
Nothing to get worried.

Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

Swollen cheeks can occur due to many reasons few are;
Due to underlying dental issues, allergic reactions, inflammation of the lymph nodes, inflammation of the parotid gland known as Parotitis, blunt trauma to the face, persence of tumors , cysts.

Wisdom tooth that come croocked or crowd other tooth, or become impacted nay also leads to swollen cheeks.

It can be due to vitamin deficiencies, oral infections like bacterial, and viral.

I would suggest you to visit to an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and get the clinical evaluation done, take an OPG radiograph.

Take vitamin tablets, maintain a good oral hygiene.

Hope this helps out.

Regards..

Hello and welcome to hcm,

Swollen cheek may be due to-
Chronic cheek biting habit.
Impacted wisdom tooth.
Buccally placed sharp edges of tooth.
Supra-erupted tooth.
Apply mucopain gel on the affected site.
Get a thorough clinical examination with your dentist.
Get further treatment based on the evaluation.

Dentist Dr. Benley George's  Response
Hello,
The problem you experience could be Pericoronitis. This is an inflammation around the wisdom tooth. You will have to get an OPG xray taken to know if the wisdom tooth lies in a favourable or unfavourable position. Accordingly the dentist will decide if it has to be removed or not. Ideally speaking it is better to remove the wisdom tooth. You can take warm saline gargle 3-4 times a day for a week.antibiotics and analgesics as prescribed by your dentist. Consult your dentist at the earliest.
